The episode with the multiverse
We are a fixed point in time
The burden of Time Lords; x where F(x) = x
In all timelines exists the variations of a voice note
Of me laughing at your bad jokes,
A pair of ferret socks, a diary of adventures.
In this one, I am your little furry sidekick who talks
Mostly to make sarcastic unhelpful comments
As you blunder through side quests to liberate all
The creatures inside Dr Z’s lab.
In another, you are an old oak tree on the divide,
Sacred to both sides and I am your protector in
Silver armour, I sleep in the crook of your roots.
There’s one where we are both pencils, made at the same time
I outlive you, you write more than me.
Another we are clocks on the same wall, my seconds beat
Just a fraction faster than yours.
We are boulders under a cliff
Blades of grass on a Biodome planet
Alien races on opposing sides
Supernatural detectives in a small Oregon town.
In the timelines where we don’t meet, something is missing,
our lives are never quite what they should be.
And somewhere there’s that one
Where the timing is right
The distance is short
And everything falls into place.
